Interview with Katherine Brunacci : Frank Scott: What is the main principle, idea and inspiration behind your design?. Katherine Brunacci : The inspiration for the Naming Spoon came from a need to offer a modern and popular alternative to the traditional Christening present, of a spoon. I wanted to create a spoon that could be personalised and named as a 'Naming Spoon'. Naming Ceremonies, have increased in popularity in recent times. I wanted to create an object, the 'Naming Spoon', to be given at the Naming Ceremony or Christening Each 'Naming Spoon' is unique and can be personalised with the recipients Birth Stone and initialised. In our ever growing 'throw away' society I wanted to create an artefact that can be presented as an heirloom for the families heritage. .Frank Scott: What sets this design apart from other similar or resembling concepts?. Katherine Brunacci : The 'Naming Spoon' can be embellished with the birthstone of the clients choosing. I wanted to make a spoon that was beautiful and could be kept as a decorative statement piece but also was functional. The 'Naming Spoon' is beautifully balanced and the bowl conforms to a child's mouth perfectly. All spoon handles are hand forged out of a solid piece of sterling silver. This method of construction makes each 'Naming Spoon' created slightly different and unique. .
